Out in Architecture Volume II

Project Description

Out in Architecture Volume II is a collection of reflections by LGBTQIA+ individuals within and adjacent to the field of architecture.

Ranging from identity within and beyond practice to reclaiming space and redefining systems, these essays form a cache of struggle, celebration, hope, and wisdom—while aiming to propel conversation into action and institutional change.

The idea began with a spark at the end of 2022 and continued with this second volume in 2026. Despite the numerous Pride Month webinars and panel discussions at conferences around the nation, a group of LGBTQIA+ architects, designers, and activists set out to record the experiences that were shared in a way that could be referenced in the future. The books are a physical manifestation of the resilience and ingenuity of LGBTQIA+ architects and designers.
